Transport Terms & Conditions

By acceptance of this quotation, the customer accepts all terms and conditions stated herein.
All pricing is in Canadian dollars unless otherwise specified. Quote does not include any applicable taxes. All quotations are based on the weights and dimensions specified in the quote.
Should actual weights or dimensions differ at time of loading, Halifax Freight Solutions Inc. (HFS) has the right to adjust the quotation accordingly.
This quotation is conditional upon permit approval, equipment availability, clear and uninterrupted access to site, and seasonal road restrictions available at the time of quotation. Should new restrictions arise from the date of quotation, then HFS reserves the right to adjust its quotation accordingly.
Any utility clearances or approvals, police escorts, escorts, bridge surveys, wire lifting, engineering studies, or traffic management plans that are required but not expressly stated in this quotation will be billed at cost plus 15%.
Unless stated otherwise, this quotation allows for a free time allowance of 2 hours loading and 2 hours unloading. Any time in excess will be billed at the applicable hourly rate.
Any costs associated with loading and unloading of our equipment will be for the account of others unless expressly stated in the quotation. Some specialized trailers require assembly/disassembly on site, and it is agreed that the shipper/consignee will provide the necessary crane/forklift at their expense.
This quotation does not include any tarping, shrink-wrapping, sealing or protection from any natural elements or road spray unless expressly stated.
It is the responsibility of the shipper to ensure that the items to be shipped are packaged sufficiently to protect the goods from incidental damage during transport. This includes, but is not limited to damage from road debris, tree branches, stones, rain/snow/hail, etc. If the shipper elects to ship the goods with either insufficient or no packaging, then the load is being transported under "Shipper's Risk" and HFS is not liable for damages sustained to the goods from incidental road damages.
This quotation includes cargo liability of up to $2.00 per pound with an aggregate limit of $500,000. HFS assumes no liability beyond this limit unless a higher limit and the applicable accessorial charges have been agreed to in writing by HFS and the customer. HFS shall not be responsible for any delays, losses, or damage occasioned by delays in the performance of its obligations, whatever the cause, including but not limited to equipment failure, weather, Acts of God, permit delays, road construction, and road restrictions.
HFS will make all reasonable efforts to ensure adequate equipment availability and will endeavour to meet the customer's pickup and delivery schedule on a best-efforts basis. We do not in any way guarantee availability of equipment or guarantee transport of the load within the customer's schedule. HFS will not accept liability for any costs incurred by the customer because of delays in transport which include but are not limited to crane charges, overtime or labour costs, downtime, rigging charges, and ship/rail detention fees.
Any Police and/or Private Escort detention charges will be charged at cost plus 15%. Cancellation of Police Escorts requires 48 hours notice otherwise cancellation fees may apply.
Trailer demurrage charges may apply if trailer is required to be held at the shipper or consignee greater than 24 hours.
This quotation is valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise.

Import Terms and Conditions

Limitations of liability - Maximum cargo liability for loss or damage is limited to $2.00 per pound ($4.41 per kilogram) unless a higher value is declared and agreed to in writing prior to shipment.
Quote based on the dimensions at the time of quote, changes in dimensions and weight at time of handling may result in additional charges.
Quote based on availability at time of booking.
30 days validity and subject to review at time of shipping.
1. Rate includes current FSC unless stipulated otherwise — subject to change without notice.
Quote based on full scope award.
All new confirmed shipments are subject to review and approval prior to acceptance by HFS.
Unless noted otherwise, transload are based on skidded freight able to off-load / reload with a forklift.
We do not dispatch or plan any trucks prior to the container being customs released and available for pick-up at the terminal.
1. Pre-pulls of containers can be arranged at a cost of $300 per container.
All Port appointments at any terminal in Halifax is based on their availability and planned days to perform the work.
1. All appointments at the pier will be governed by the Terminal's specific Terms and Conditions.
2. All terminal and handling charges apart from the full container fee are to the account of others.
3. Port appointments can only be scheduled once all required paperwork has been provided to HFS.
The quote is provided based on performing the work during regular business hours, Monday to Friday excluding holidays.
All pricing out of thaw period in any state or province.
Customers handling their on-carriage must confirm appointments a minimum of 24 hours in advance:
1. HFS will only communicate with its customer and it's the customer's responsibility to coordinate with their subcontractor.
2. All trucks picking up must arrive within the 30-minute window of their set appointment time.
3. Loading activities may be delayed or re-scheduled.
4. HFS will not be held responsible or liable for any charges associated with lateness meeting set appointment.
Any cargo is subject to 3 free days on our floor before storage charges apply.
1. Storage is charged at a rate of $1.00 per square foot per week, or part thereof.
2. No half weeks or half months are billed.

1. The cargo weight must be provided to HFS in order for the VGM to be calculated.

3. HFS will only receive the merchandise at our warehouse when we can pull the containers from the terminal to limit storage of the goods on our floor.

Direct Drayage Terms and Conditions

Yard storage: Load or Empty, $50/day, with the day of arrival free of charge.
Chassis detention: 24 hours free, thereafter $75/day.
Waiting time:
1. Local: 1 hour free then $125/hour.
2. Highway: 2 hours free then $125/hour.
Scale Fee: $250/per visit on scale.
Shunt container from dock: $50 each (first shunt free).
Extra stop off: $200 (within same zone).
Lift on/off: $70 each.
Overweight charge in Canada: 3 axle chassis charge will apply $75/Cont. (Over 22,500 kgs).
Terminal Congestion $150 per container (flat fee)
